Why Take This Journey

I previously mentioned I suffer from Fibromyalgia. I have come a LONG way in the last few years. Just to give you some background and why I’m on this journey of taking care of myself (finally), about eight years ago I broke out in a serious case of hives. It started off with a few, but within a month I was covered. My eyes would swell, one side of my lip would swell. I tried antihistamines, topicals, and just hoped it would go away. Eventually my throat began to close and I ended up in the Emergency Room. An adrenaline shot saved the day, but I wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone! I now carry an Epipen, but the point of the story is there have been links to stress and chronic hives -but for me I was actually attacking my own body (autoimmunity) from within. I was put on an outrageous steroid regiment. I blew up, the meds weren’t working and I was miserable and depressed.

My husband was really worried, when the doctor essentially wanted me to sign a form agreeing to (what I call), signing my life away. My husband freaked, he demanded a second opinion and I’m sure glad I got one. I was in remission within two months, but cut to the present and four years ago, I was diagnosed with Fibro (chronic pain). There are so many who believe this is a disease of the mind, hysteria, and a female issue. I can assure you none of this is true but it just adds an extra fight to living with this chronic illness.

I began to do some research. I couldn’t live like this. I cried a lot, I was so down, and I could barely work. I’d heard about people giving up one food item a time and trying to see if they could conquer some of the flare ups by giving up Gluten, or dairy or sugar. I was also inactive physically for so long because I couldn’t walk. I began slowly getting into yoga, which was not only a stress relief but somewhat of a meditation and allowed me to build strength in arms and legs again. This is kind of the quick version and I don’t have all of the answers but I can sure relate and that’s why I’m all about motivation and positive vibes. Hopefully you’ll find something funny, touching or inspirational on my blog. Don’t be afraid to reach out! I’d love to hear your story.
