The Power of the Mind

Do you believe in the power of the mind? Do you think the mind is capable of creating sickness? Health? If you’ve answered yes, then we’re on the same page. As you know, I have Fibromyalgia. Essentially one is diagnosed with Fibro when everything else is ruled out and yet the person remains in constant pain accompanied by exhaustion. While Fibro is considered an autoimmune disease, I’ve spoken to many people diagnosed with it, who have claimed to have gone through significant stress before being diagnosed. As far as I’m concerned, I went through a heinous battle of hives a few years before I was diagnosed with Fibro. Hives is a known precursor to Fibro. Was I stressed when I developed hives? You guessed it. Was I significantly stressed when I was diagnosed with Fibro? Hell yes. I was a mess. The pain was so depressing and debilitating I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to make it. I have asked myself many times if the pressure of personal issues, coupled with a move to another state, a new job and a tyrant of boss hadn’t occurred, would I be fine? Is the mind that powerful? Can it feed on and eat away at healthy tissue?  In my opinion, yes. Some illnesses lie dormant until your defenses are down.

On a more positive note, can the mind help you to achieve and become the person you truly are meant to be? I’m not talking about a high IQ, or a book smart person. How many people have you met with a ton of potential and yet do nothing? The mind is a powerful tool. What you set your mind to, you can achieve, or get darn close. A friend of mine, who was also a school principal until he got promoted used to tell me, he saw himself in the chair of his former principal. He was not about to quit until he was sitting in that very seat. Guess what? He sat in that very seat when she retired.

Do you want a promotion? To be your own boss? To feel good about your body? Negative thoughts won’t get you there. Sabotaging yourself won’t help, and listening to others tell you what you can’t do won’t work. You have to think for yourself and not get wrapped up in another persons fears. There are family members and friends who don’t want you to succeed or believe in yourself for fear of being left behind.  Allow your mind to take over and explore all of the options you have, once you take control of your life. Cut out the negativity, live in the moment. I challenge you to be YOU!
